GAVIN KELLY is an A.S.C. honored cinematographer who shoots a wide spectrum of feature, episodic, commercial and music video projects around the world. Gavin’s extensive background in visual arts, music, and film, has fueled an explorative creative drive. His feature work has been featured in many international festivals, including SUNDANCE, SXSW, TORONTO and TRIBECA.
Gavin recently shot season two of the acclaimed anthology series LITTLE AMERICA, for Apple TV+, with executive producers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon (The Big Sick), Alan Yang (Master of None), Lee Eisenberg (The Office) and Siân Heder (Coda). The season premieres January 2023.
Gavin shot the pilot for the hit series THE EQUALIZER, starring Queen Latifah in a reimagining of the classic series and character.
Gavin wrapped the final season of WU-TANG: AN AMERICAN SAGA for showrunners RZA and Alex Tse. The series chronicles the complex lives and formation of the iconic hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, and the culture of the Wu-Tang universe. He shot the pilot, and all three seasons of the series.
Gavin DP’d several seasons of the popular anthology series AMERICAN HORROR STORY for Ryan Murphy and FX. He also shot several previous seasons of the show as well.
Gavin lensed the pilot and season 1 of the hit series 9-1-1 for Ryan Murphy and FOX.
Gavin shot the ACADEMY AWARD winning film WEST BANK STORY, a striking musical-comedy take on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The film premiered at Sundance and has won numerous international festival awards.
Feature credits include LUV, the coming-of-age dramatic thriller set on the streets of Baltimore, starring Common, Meagan Good, and Danny Glover, which premiered in competition in the Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically.
Gavin shot the reboot of CABIN FEVER, Eli Roth's successful first film, directed by Travis Zariwny and produced by Cassian Elwes, and released by IFC, as well as THE SWEET LIFE, starring Chris Messina and Abigail Spencer as two unlucky strangers with nothing left to lose who head out on an impulsive road trip to San Francisco to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge.
Gavin's other credits include DIAL A PRAYER starring William H. Macy and Brittany Snow, SAFELIGHT, starring Juno Temple and Evan Peters, and PHANTOM HALO, directed by Antonia Bogdanovich and executive produced by Peter Bogdanovich.
Gavin shot THE DRY LAND, starring Ryan O'Nan, America Ferrera, Wilmer Valderrama, Melissa Leo, and Jason Ritter. The film, following the struggles of a soldier returning from war, premiered in competition in the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
In 2005 Gavin received the prestigious A.S.C. Heritage Award for Outstanding Cinematography, Honorable Commendation, from the American Society of Cinematographers.
Gavin has been profiled in various publications, including International Cinematographer's Guild Magazine in the feature article "Generation Next."
While in undergraduate studies in Visual Arts at U.C.S.D., Gavin was awarded two Student Emmys for his films.
Gavin went on to receive an M.F.A. in film production at the U.S.C. School of Cinematic Arts in 2004.
